BAD GIRLS DO IT WELL
The Gulabi gang is a group of women vigilantes active across North India. It is named after the pink saris worn by its members. The group was founded as a response to widespread domestic abuse and other violence against women. Gulabis visit abusive husbands and beat them with bamboo sticks. In 2008, they stormed an electricity office and forced officials to restore the power they had cut to extract bribes. The Gulabis have also stopped child marriages and protested dowry and female illiteracy.

Lucy Meadows was a primary school teacher who did nothing other than to transition while keeping her job in the school. Unable to get her fired under the equal rights act, the more bigoted members of the community contacted the Daily Mail, and Richard Littlejohn wrote a column personally attacking her. He used the young children that she taught as a weapon, insisting that the transition would “damage their innocence”, referring to Miss Meadows as “he” throughout and declaring that she was putting her own wants above the well-being of the children she taught.
She was subsequently harassed by the press, all because she dared to transition and keep living her life like any other normal human being.
The Daily Mail only removed all mention of Miss Meadows from its article after she killed herself this week.

The Door to Hell: This crater in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan was created by a drilling accident in 1971, when the ground underneath the drilling rig and camp collapsed. No lives were lost, however large amounts of dangerous methane gas was released. To prevent the release of the poisonous gases to the surrounding villages, scientists decided to burn it off, thinking that the gas would burn within days. Decades later, it is still burning. (x)
